WEST MIDLANDS BASKETBALL LEAGUE
COMMITTEE MEETING – 2 SEPTEMBER 2008

Present: Mike Neal (Chair), Dave Slade (Vice Chair), Jane Huffer (Treasurer),

The Minutes of the previous meeting were read over and signed as being correct.

Changes To Handbook

Club - Stoke – new Court details, Northwood Stadium, Keelings Road, Northwood, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. ST1 6PA. Tel No. 0782234400.

Club - Great Barr Lasers - tip off time is Sunday 16.30 and kit colour is Blue.

Referees: Roy Francis details are: 1 Slater Close, Cradley Heath B64 6JB 0138 4639227 His is also a Level 3 Ref

1. Matters Arising

5. Tony Johnson reported that The Table Officials’ Course has received a total of 9 candidates. Therefore, the course will now continue. There are still places available and any one interested have until the 21st Sept to apply. Details of the course are on the web site.

3.2 Tony Johnson delivered a report with regards to his meeting with the West Midlands Fire Service. It is proposed that the West Midlands Fire Service may sponsor the League on a number of items. He will liaise with the West Midlands Fire Service to finalize the sponsorship of the League.

3.3 David Lloyd have now paid their League fines.

4. There is a structure in place for the cancelling of a League fixture, rule 3ei applies. See Referees Secretary’s report.

6.3 No receipts for Trophies have been received. Will all teams who were in receipt of a trophy please return the receipt to the Secretary without fail.

2. Chairman (Mike Neal)

The Area Registrar, Malcolm Heath is on Holiday from the 9th Sept until the 17th.

3. Secretary’s Report (Andy Millington)

3.1 All teams have been given their fixtures for the forthcoming season. None have reported any problems. Stoke must inform all opponents of the changes to their court address and tip off times.

3.2 All teams have been sent registration forms from the EBBA. Please ensure that when returning the form the proforma form is complete. If you require more forms please contact the Area Registrar.

3.3 An email from E. Olaiya was received with regards his position as a team member for Chase B and as coach of Stafford Hoops. The email was discussed at length and the Committee see no reason why he can not continue to perform both roles. However, when the two teams play each other Mr Olaiya must inform the Committee which role will take.

3.4 The Rule book and the handbooks have now been circulated to all clubs in the PDF format. Steven Barnes will forward a hard copy of the Rule and Handbook to all team Secretaries.

3.5 Tony Johnson has produced a new League assessment form which will be circulated to all teams. The Referee is required to fill in the top and middle section, with team coaches filling the bottom section. The assessment form must be sent in with the score sheet as usual.

4. Referees (Keith Kershaw)

Draft appointments will be sent out by 12th September.

Licences – All officials MUST have a licence – for insurance purposes. I have contacted all current “e-mail” officials regarding this.

New rules. These will be sent out with Handbooks, Rulebooks, etc to officials. Copies for clubs will be sent to The League Secretary for onward distribution. They will also be posted on the Website.

Officials and clubs are advised that the appointments will be posted on the Website only by myself, and if time allows will be updated regularly.

5. Re Arranged Fixtures Secretary

5.1 The set procedure for the cancellation and re-arrangement of fixture is given in the Rules. Rule 3, eii, 3 eiii refer. Clubs MUST follow this procedure.

5.2 Denise Kearney is now responsible for re-arranged fixtures and MUST be contacted in the 1st instance, by phone or text. If Denise is not available then Keith Kershaw should be contacted by phone or e-mail. If Denise or Keith are unavailable then you should contact Kevin Henry by phone or e-mail. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT OTHER MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.

6. Treasurer (Jane Huffer)

No report.

7. Any other business

7.1 John Taylor has produced hard copies of the Rulebook and Handbooks and has circulated these to all teams. The Committee thanks John and his team for the fine work and all their efforts in producing the books for the League.

7.2 Barry Viner attended the Area AGM and if anyone would like a copy of the minutes please contact him.

7.3 Jim Smith informed the Committee that with immediate affect Warley A Basketball Team will not be participating in the WMBL. Jim described in detail the reason for the decision, this was discussed in length by the committee. The committee accepted Warley A resignation from the league and will monitor its effect on the Rosebowl competition. The Committee thanked Jim for his hard work and efforts in producing the fixtures for the League and the handicap system for the Rosebowl competition.

7.4 Notice To Team Secretaries.

Team secretaries are reminded to read the League rules as Ignorance of the rules will not be accepted as a reason for any default. In particular, team secretaries should pay attention to the following:

1. Player registration – rule 2
2. Score sheets correctly filled in and sent to the results secretary – rule6b
3. Fixture cancelling – rule 3ei
4. Appeals procedure – rule 4
5. Re-arrange fixtures contact Denise Kearney.
6. Appeals must be sent by post with a £10 surety fee to Tony Johnson

8. Babe Clay Handicap Cup (Rosebowl)

A full list of Handicap scores can be found on the website. The League Management Committee reserves the right to alter any handicap during the season.

The draw for the 1st round is as follows:

Clubs are reminded to check the handbook for the home court & tip-off details, especially for places you do not normally visit.
The 2nd round is scheduled for week commencing 23rd November.

9. Date of Next Meeting

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 7th October 2008 in Room 45 at Leasowes Sports Centre, Kent Road, Halesowen at 6.30pm prompt. The following will not be present at the meeting and have forwarded their apologies:
