WEST MIDLANDS BASKETBALL LEAGUE

COMMITTEE MEETING - 10 JULY 2007

 

Present: Mike Neal (Chair), Dave Slade (Vice Chair), Andy Millington (Secretary), Jane Huffer (Treasurer), Keith Kershaw (Referees), Jim Smith (Fixtures), Martin Bromage-Griffiths (Appeals), Barrie Viner (Area Representative), Anthony Johnson, Zoran Pancic, Kevin Henry, Lee Clark, Stephen Barnes, Nigel Evans.

Mike welcomed the new Committee members to their first meeting.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read over and signed as being correct

1. Matters Arising.

2.5 Table Officials' Course. Wyre Forrest have nominated 6 to attend the course. Please note new dates - Wednesday 19th September 7-9pm, Thursday 20th September 7-9pm, with the exam on 8th October. The course will take place at Leasowes Sports Centre, Kent Road, Halesowen. Any further nominations to Tony Johnson at tony.johnson@yahoo.co.uk , by 15th August at the latest.

2.6 Mark Harrison will cease his involvement with the website from September. Following the AGM, Mushaud Iqbal from David Lloyds and Lee Clark from Hawks had offered to help out. Lee has spoken to Makis Chatzimichalis who runs the Hawks site. Makis has offered to re-design and update the site, and maintain it on a regular basis. Mushaud is thanked for his offer of help. Andy and Tony were given authority to OK the proposals made by Makis, as there is no Committee meeting in August and we need to get the site up and running.

2. Secretary's Report (Andy Millington)

2.1  Mick Johnson of Featherstone has produced an intent to visit form which he has requested be filled in by all teams from Div 2 and returned to him by mid September in order that security check can be made. Clubs are also reminded that mobile telephones may not be taken into Prison establishments.

3. Referee's secretary (Keith Kershaw)

3.1  A referee's meeting & social evening will be held at the start of next season. Further details will be sent to officials once all the arrangements have been made.  

3.2  A new referee's report form is being introduced next season for officials to make comments (good & bad) on the conduct of all teams. Further details will be sent out in September.

4. Treasurer's Report (Jane Huffer)  

4.1  Outstanding fines:

JH 13/06. C White (Aston A's). Fine now increased to £22.50. This fine is now a club responsibility (see June minutes). C. White is now suspended from any games in the West Midlands Basketball League until this fine is paid.

 KK 15/06. D Finch. Rule 6f, failure to honour referee commitments. Fine now £25.50.  

4.2  New fines:

Failure to attend AGM, Rule 6ii. Fine £15

JH 01/07 ProGuard

JH 02/07 Redditch

JH 03/07 Swinfen Hall

JH 04/07 Walsall Wizards (formerly Willenhall)

Late entry to League. Rule 6iii. Fine £15

Outstanding League fees: (New team)

Birmingham Medics (League Fee £75, Late entry £10, guarantee fee £10) Total £95.

ALL FINES & OUTSTANDING FEES MUST BE PAID BY 20TH JULY

Trophies

The following trophies remain uncollected after the AGM. They will be available to collect at the start of the next Management Committee Meeting.

5. Any Other Business

5.1  The League structure will be as stated at the AGM, however following concerns by Div 2 teams regarding the number of matches, all Div 2 teams will play each other three times.

5.2  In view of the value of the Trophies owned by the League, all trophies will be photographed and insured. Keith and Mike will liase over this matter.

5.3 New clubs are reminded that if they have any problems they should contact a Committee member for advice, however the following Committee members have offered to "mentor" new clubs: Wyre Forrest - Dave Slade, Blazers - Kevin Henry and Medics - Barrie Viner.

5.4 Neil Roberts, Pro Guard has not attended the last two meetings to answer a charge of bringing the game into disrepute, despite his apologies being sent in for the June meeting. As such he is suspended from all participation in the West Midlands Basketball League until he contacts the Chairman to arrange a hearing.

6. Date of Next Meeting

There will be no meeting in August. The next Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 11th September 2007 at Leasowes Sports Centre, Kent Road, Halesowen, at 6.00pm prompt.
