WEST MIDLANDS BASKEBALL LEAGUE

COMMITTEE MEETING - 5 May 2009

Present:- Mike Neal (Chair), Dave Slade (Vice Chair), Andy Millington (Secretary), Jane Huffer (Treasurer), Keith Kershaw (Referees), Makis Chatzmichallis (Media Manager), Tony Johnson (Appeals), Denise Kearney (Fixture Changes), John Taylor, Kevin Henry, Zoran Pancic, Barrie Viner.

Apologies: - Nigel Evans and Jim Smith.

The meeting opened with Mike Neal remembering Jimmy Bradshaw of Redditch Basketball Club who passed away recently. Mike was pleased that the League were well represented at the funeral and once gain passed on the thoughts of the League and Committee to his family.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read over and signed as being correct.

  1. Matters arising.


      3.1 ProGuard fine is still outstanding. All Clubs are reminded that fines MUST be paid by 31.5.09, before applications for next season will be considered.

    3.3 A member of Aston As will be attending this meeting.

      3.4 Hinson Woo of Arup has been in contact with the Secretary regarding outstanding fines, see 3.1 above.

      9.0 The Chairman thanked Keith Kershaw and the Competitions Committee for organising the Rosebowl and Knockout Plate Finals at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury.
      Both were very good close games.

  1. Secretary’s Report (Andy Millington)


    1. Letter read out from Andy Read – Aston Uni complimenting Wyre Forrest on their Semi Final Rosebowl win, but questioning whether or not semi finals should be played on a neutral court, in view of the low beams at the Kidderminster venue. The matter was discussed but it was felt that this issue was very much a luck of the draw situation, which had not been raised before.


    1. A letter was read out from Mike Steel- Chase Panthers, regarding an opposition player in a recent match. An investigation showed that the player concerned was not disqualified from the match and so no further action was taken.








  1. Aston A’s (Dawn Hall)


    1. Dawn Hall attended the meeting as the representative of Aston A’s (Now re-named Birmingham A’s) Dawn apologised for the way in which the team had been run this season and explained that she is taking full control of all of the teams within the club. She explained that a new structure was now in place and promised to work hard to improve the team image in liaison with the Committee. All fines would be paid as soon as she has a breakdown of them.


      The Chairman thanked Dawn for attending the meeting and looked forward to an improvement for next season.

    1. 2009/10 League Fees


      These will be the same as the current season (£80) and will include a scorebook for every team.

7. Any Other Business

      7.1 The Secretary is to contact all Premiere clubs and the first 3 teams in Div 1 to ask if they wish to be considered for the Premiere League in 2009/2010.

      7.2 Any rules changes for the AGM must be sent in writing to the Secretary by 1.6.09.

8. Annual General Meeting

    The AGM will take place at on Tuesday 30th June commencing at 19.15 at Leasowes Sports Centre Theatre, and will be followed by the Summer League Final. All teams must be represented.

9. Date of Next Meeting

    The next Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 2nd June 2009 in Room 45 at Leasowes Sports Centre, Kent Road, Halesowen at 6.30pm prompt.
