BASKETBALL LEAGUE

COMMITTEE
MEETING – 5 FEBRUARY 2008

The Minutes of the previous meeting were read over and signed as being correct with the exception that Tony Johnson attended the January meeting. 

  1. Matters Arising

 

    1. Twelve students completed the Table Officials’ Course with seven taking the exam. Five were unable to attend because of match commitments, and Jeff will arrange for them to take the Course at a later date. Twenty-four people have attended the Table Officials’ Course this season. Thanks go to Tony Johnson and Jeff Booton for organising and to the Area for funding.

 

    1. The following eight teams have registered for the Summer League:

      West Midlands Police/Chase
      Panthers/Blazers/Warley/Balkans/Wyre Forest/Redditch. Old Sills are
      first reserve but if any other teams wish to be put on the reserve list they must contact the Secretary as soon as possible.

      Leasowes Sports Centre has been provisionally booked to play a central venue tournament, commencing 6th May for eight weeks.

             Mike was given permission to go ahead in ordering Trophies for the end of season. 

  1. Secretary’s Report (Andy Millington)

 

    1. Aston A’s are fined £5 (Rule 6p) for failing to put registration numbers on score sheet – Match WM170 – Shropshire v Aston ’s.

 

    1. WM192 – Smithswood v Aston University – Aston failed to attend – match awarded 20–0. 1 point deducted, and a fine of £20. (Rule 3eiii) plus £17.50 referee’s expenses.

 
 

    1. Rose Bowl Final – Warriors are still trying to arrange the Final and run it prior to a Birmingham Panther’s match at TCAT. Keith Kershaw to liase with the Secretary upon his return for the earliest possible date that the final can take place.

 

4.Referees Secretary (Mickey Buckle)

       

    4.1    Confirmed February appointments now with referees & club secretaries. 

        
4.2    Final March appointments will be sent out at the end of February.
 

              
      4.3    Women’s Police National Finals. There has been
      some confusion on the dates of this event. It will be on the weekend of 17th/18th May at Nechells. Any officials interested in working this tournament please contact me.

  1. Any Other Business

 

    1. Babe Clay Rose Bowl.
      Once the 3rd round games have been completed the Competitions sub committee will make the draw for the next round. These games will be played in the week commencing 16th March. All clubs left in the competition will be informed of the raw.

                 
The final will be hosted by Shropshire on a date near the end of April.
 

    1. Stuart Birch, Head of P.E. at King Edwards School, Edgbaston is retiring this summer after 38 years. To celebrate his involvement with basketball a one-day tournament involving many former pupils will be held on Saturday 15th March in the sports hall.  Anyone who knows Stuart is invited to come along during the day. Further information from Keith Kershaw.

 

    1. General notice to all teams holding trophies – they are reminded that these must be returned to a committee member by the 1 March 2008. Clubs failing to do so will be fined.

 

  1. Date of Next Meeting

 

    The next meeting will take place at Leasowes Sports Centre. Kent Road, Halesowen on 4 March 2008 at 6.30pm prompt. A new meeting room has been booked opposite the Sports Hall Reception.
